Copenhagen sakura festival 2020 cancelled due to COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS

Dear all
It is with a heavy heart, that we have to convey this message to you.
The Copenhagen Sakura Festival 2020 will be cancelled, due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
This decision has not been taken lightly, as a lot of people are involved in the festival, and a lot of guests have been looking forward to the event.
However, to keep everyone from performing artists and volunteers to shops, restaurants and guests safe, we feel that the only option is to cancel this years festival.
A postponement is not an option, unfortunately. The festival simply wouldn’t be the same without the blossoming cherry trees, and the preparation and logistics for a festival of this kind, takes several months to plan. Therefore, we have decided to cancel the event instead of postponing. We hope everyone stays safe, and we can’t wait to see you all in 2021.

Det er med et tungt hjerte, at vi er nødt til at bringe denne besked.
Copenhagen Sakura Festival 2020 aflyses på grund af COVID-19 udbruddet.
Denne beslutning har ikke været let at tage, da mange mennesker er involveret i festivalen, og mange gæster har set frem til begivenheden.
For at sikre helbredet for alle fra kunstnere og frivillige til butikker, restauranter og gæster, føler vi, at den eneste mulighed er at aflyse dette års festival.
En udsættelse af festivalen er desværre ikke en mulighed. Sakura festival ville simpelthen ikke være det samme uden de blomstrende kirsebærtræer, og forberedelserne og logistikken til en festival af denne art tager flere måneder at planlægge. Derfor har vi besluttet at aflyse dette års festival, i stedet for at udskyde den.
Vi håber at alle kommer igennem denne tid med helbredet i godt behold, og vi glæder os til at se jer alle i 2021.

We are excited to introduce you to the following two groups who are going to perform at the festival’s main stage program.

Mitsune – Shamisen trio

Mitsune is an all-female Shamisen trio based in Berlin, comprising members from Japan, Australia and Germany. Shiomi, Youka and Tina specialise in a unique 3-stringed Japanese folk instrument favoured by the geisha and blind monks of olden day Japan. The women of Mitsune delight in turning tradition on its head, performing an exciting mix of Japanese folk songs, virtuosic modern repertoire and original compositions.

The name Mitsune translates from Japanese as “a sweet sound”, but is also a play on the word “mitsu”, which indicates three of something – the three strings of a shamisen, three women, three cultures coming together in harmony.

Shamisen Trio MITSUNE perform their original piece “Heat”, with special guest Petros Tzekos on percussion:

Tsumugi no kai – Owara folk dance group

Owara Kaze no Bon Festival is held annually over the first three days of September in Toyama in Japan. One of the most lively and popular event in Japan originated over 300 years ago known for its elegant traditional dances.

We “Tsumugi no kai” have performed Owara dancing in many places, such as nursing home, hospitals as volunteer work. We’re very looking forward to introducing our culture, tradition and beauty through the performance in Denmark.
